"A Bird's Call" by Shawna Cald

I love to fly and spread my wings as far as they will take me

The best part of the flight is that it ends whenever I choose to land

Sometimes I soar so high that I do not know how I even got there

But when I look down, I’m never afraid only content with all the wind beneath my wings

Can I walk? Can I run? Or can I get a ride to my destinations? I guess I could but there’s nothing like a journey that feels like you are in the sky above everything else

Sometimes I glance down and feel sadness for all the birds whose wings are clipped or have a broken spirit; our wings are ours to take care of.

When I fly, I take deep breaths and feel the freedom brush through every feather of my soul and I am thankful He gave me such beautiful feathers

As I travel, sometimes I go far and sometimes I stay close to home but I am always pleased to see all the other free birds take flight up there with me

The beauty of sharing the sky is the lack of obstacle and the openness to search for dreams

They are there and while they get hidden at times in the clouds or stormy weather, you can always find them waiting for you to arrive

A bird’s greatest fear is being caged up with no song to sing and sometimes afraid that no one will hear their song but when I am up there, I hear all the melody and see all the majestic things there is to offer below

A caged bird flails in distress for its sole purpose is to have the free will to be itself and have others not look to it with intentions to hold it in captivity but to watch in amazement as she ascends into wherever the wind shall take her

She only hopes for others who have strong wings to be able to do the same

I am forever thankful for the nest I came from for I was fed well and grew strong

I observed, watched with a curious eye, and chose the flight patterns I found most rewarding for my flight

A bird should have no other calling than to reach the latitudes that allows them to spread their wings as far as they will take them…
