American Revolution
From Revere, Dawes, and Prescott,
To all the battles won and fought,
From the tyrannical judgment of King George’s reign,
To the pamphlet Common Sense by Thomas Paine,
The American Revolution.
“GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!”
Is the battle cry,
Of the Continental Army before they die,
And those who answer this call,
Give Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness to all.
We leave our families,
And hope to return,
But not far in the city,
Tories wait to burn,
Our homes and our liberty.
Atop Breed’s Hill the Redcoats see,
Patriots firing cannons,
Creating debris,
They pick up their muskets and have but one rule to go by,
“DON’T FIRE TIL’ YOU SEE THE WHITE OF THEIR EYE!”
“These are the times that try men’s souls”
In the winter at Valley Forge,
As the British laugh and be gay,
The Pats stand up and say,
“WE HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT!”
Then the French came to our aid,
To quickly fade,
That awful memory of absolute reign,
And to put highest in our government,
A great President!
From the beaten Redcoats,
To the John Paul Jones’s magnificent boat,
When they ask for our surrender,
We will yell back with all our might,
“WE HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT!”
We fight on and on,
We win and bleed,
For all those in need,
Of a better life in the land of the freed,
“I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”
