Footprints..
Sauntering along the beach,
watching the kings play,
guarding their kingdom against the monster,
while some peacefully lay.
Some shook hands with it,
a few ran for cover.
The yellow spot was laughing at those
who could only apprehensively hover.
The kings roared with excitement
to celebrate their win against her.
Hundreds of lines bent downwards
when came the cool zephyr.
Both begged to me for mercy,
but I didn’t let them be,
until I heard a piece of music
which to me seemed unearthly.
I tried to hunt the source
which had made me suddenly mum.
Unheard by the others it was,
seemed to be playing possum.
Repeatedly failing, I frowned testily
when a gentle hand undid my fist,
I scanned the environs and smiled slyly
her anklet was the unsung artist.
Her beauty gave her a look alien
but could she possibly be?
it mattered not who won the battle;
she appeared a nymph to me.
The spell cast was too strong:
it took me to a place anew.
When I became myself again,
my eyes fell upon the two.
Innocently canoodling each other they were,
gripping tightly the string of the kite.
We drew ourselves closer to them
and I concluded that I was right.
Her soft fingers traversed the lines
which had now developed on my face.
She had a halo around her body;
and hers was glowing as always.
The spell was recast and the jaunt ended,
my heart had never been so light.
I waited for the trance to end
then finally saw a familiar sight.
We strolled together hand in hand
upon the moist sand with feet bare,
but when I turned around and gazed at the ground
I could only see a pair.
