FOR ELAINE
When I sit in fields serene,
And gaze at pretty flowers,
When my mind is still, at ease,
And all in restful state,
My thoughts go back to simpler times,
When you were all I sought.
When I walk thru gentle woods
And listen to the birds chirp hi,
I see the breeze gently stir,
And leaves do sigh a greeting,
It’s you I wish were by my side,
To share such lovely days.
When I swim in bubbling brooks,
And see the fish scurry by,
I hear the sounds of things unseen,
Rushing by in wonder,
And think upon missed chances,
Lost with you long gone.
When I look from mountain tops,
On hills so green and lovely,
I remember days in Church Camp,
Or practices at quiz team,
And wish I could go back.
I’d tell you how I love you,
And how most beautiful to me,
No other could compare,
And how my life is nothing,
If with you I could not share.
