From Our Ferryboat
As watery reflections
surface
on Northumberland’s Strait
day’s end is
an embrace of cumulous clouds
awaiting sun’s dance
into edge-of-sky brilliance.
Passengers mingle in crowded
voices, cameras alive.
Snapshots are memories
but footsteps pause along
the deck, a
simple wish, a
hurried farewell kiss.

There is nothing as romantic as hugging your wife on a ferryboat leaving Prince Edward Island at sunset. The moon is sneaking across the sky anxious for the sun to depart, clouds are squiggly lines overhead, the rush of water against the hull, the warmth of your wife, and our lips met.
