Salmon on Dry Land
Though you seldom answer my spoken words
Though we are swayed down different paths
I deny my fate and my plans
And wait for the day you will love me.
I am quite like a salmon
Remaining on dry, familiar land
Chasing a foolish ambition
That it will find krill there.
I listen still for a trickle of emotion in your voice
In which for me to swim.
I am a fish out of water, it pains me to stay
In such a tedious, unsuitable place
My skin is parched and loosing its shine,
It's cracking with my breaking heart.
But for you I still abide.
Now that I have waited through countless seasons
And weathered the worst storms
I realize I must get back in the water
And let the river carry me on.
