The Lost Key..
Eventually I sat to rest for a while,
in the garden against an old tree
as it had been almost two hours
since I started looking for my lost locker key.
My eyes also needed rest it seemed
as they were shutting down every now and then
‘it is my locker key!’ I told them
‘and not an ordinary pen’.
Everything appeared blur to me suddenly
as my glasses had on them raindrops few.
Then I looked up to the sky and saw
its colour change to grey from blue.
I got up and moved out a little
from under the shade of the tree,
I stretched my arms and looked up again
and let the raindrops cascade down on me.
I sauntered all around the garden,
with the rain still pouring down on me,
I looked at the trees, birds and flowers around
everything had become so beautiful suddenly.
A horde of children came out of their houses:
to play, jump and frolic in the rain
all smiling and laughing with innocence of a dove
they were alien to the word ‘pain’.
Birds sitting in the trees were ruffling their feathers,
chirping softly and begging to bide the wee
It seemed to me as if
the angels were playing music heavenly
Tiny raindrops falling from the sky
embellished the flowers everywhere.
It became a pleasure for me to breathe
as their fragrance had filled the air
The dew on the grass was shining lightly
and had arranged itself in form of curls.
it seemed that Mother Nature had herself put on
a beautiful necklace of white pearls.
The spectacle was most beautiful that I had ever seen,
there was nothing in it that was amiss
I could have sat forever watching it thence
as it was a moment of pure bliss.
Detaching myself from everything else at that moment,
what true happiness really meant I could see,
with no regrets about anything anymore
even a call from the father was acceptable to me
What is the need to run? I thought
after material things like cars and money
when they are things we easily overlook
which can make our lives even more sunny.
Amidst my thought process, it stopped raining,
the sun came out and shone with all its might
Forlorn! My feet hit the ground
it became difficult to bear the intense light.
I became guilty and felt sorry for myself
as my practicality took over the nostalgia again
I resumed my search for the lost key
and again became what the world calls ‘sane’.
